The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj means to yoke or bind, and is often interpreted as "union" or a method of discipline.
Today most people practicing yoga are engaged in asana, which is a program of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide the physical strength and stamina required for long periods of meditation.
Inner Yoga is a class designed around classical Yoga Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breath work) and Meditation. Each class is divided respectively with asana portion, breath practice, and ends with a meditation segment. This is NOT a vinyasa style class! We will be working on traditional yoga postures to open our bodies on the physical level, to move into the more subtle aspects of breathing, in order to connect with our higher level, in Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation). Each week, classes will be crafted around carefully selected topics, we will focus on selected breathing practices, and there will be a variety of meditations that will vary from class to class.
This is a perfect class for beginners who are interested in bringing the more subtle aspects of yoga into their life, as well as established students.
